Cranksgiving is on November 21st!
Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels. Part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. The event started in New York City in 1999 and is now a nationwide pre-Thanksgiving tradition. Local Hub Bicycle Company and Bike Friendly Deep Ellum are excited to bring the event to Dallas this year!
Cranksgiving is a free event to enter where riders use a manifest to ride to designated grocery stores in a 10 mile radius of the starting point and purchase food items that are all donated to a charity for Thanksgiving Diners. All of the food collected during the Dallas Cranksgiving will benefit the StewPot in Downtown Dallas.
Bring a bike, a bag, a lock, navagation skills, and about $15-$20 to buy food. Registration will take place at 9 am at Main Street Gardens in Downtown Dallas the morning of the ride and the manifest will be handed out at that time. The ride will start promptly at 11 am. Plan to get there before the ride starts to plan your route. Half the fun is figuring out the best way to get to the grocery stores. This is not a race, but there will be prizes at the finish at Local Hub Bicycle Company.
Familes are welcome as long as everyone participating is comfortable riding on city streets. You can ride solo or with a team. If you are with a team, the team must stay together and everyone on the team must purchase food items at the designated grocery stores.
We ask riders to be on their best behavior and follow traffic laws. Each rider is responsible for their own safety and will be required to sign a liability release to participate in the event.
Extra big thank you to the following companies and organizations for donations of their time, prizes, and beverages for the after party: Belmont IceHouse, Community Brewery, Ellum Bag Works, Pearl Izumi, Shimano, Deep Ellum Community Organization, and Pariveda Solutions.
